In 2018, the St. Lawrence County Public Health Department received funding to help combat the opioid epidemic our community is facing. The funding is being used to increase the number of providers in our area who provide treatment, help reduce the stigma associated with substance use, and provide education and support to health care providers, community partners, and residents.

Opioids in St. Lawrence County
The Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization (FDRHPO) conducted a thorough investigation of our community to gain insight on opioid use in St. Lawrence County. Between December 2018 and June 2019, FDRHPO conducted interviews with local "key informants", held forums and focus groups in community locations, and gathered and analyzed other important data.
