Census 2000

Summary File 3 Profiles for St. Lawrence County

These Summary File 3 profiles provide detailed data concerning population, age and sex, race, households and families by relationship and by type, housing occupancy, housing tenure and other data.

The Census Bureau released computer files containing detailed tabulations of the questions asked of a sampling of census respondents (the sample or long-form questions). This includes information about income, poverty, education, employment, travel to work, ancestry, language spoken at home, housing conditions, etc. for all geographic areas in the state down to the block group.  These date were compiled into SF3 Profiles by the New York State Data Center.

St. Lawrence County Planning Office aggregated the Data Center profiles for each community in St. Lawrence County.  Each community profile is a 58-page report; each report is comparable to other Summary File 3 profiles for communities across the county or around New York State

These SF-3 profiles are the most-current and in-depth data available from the Census 2000 for St. Lawrence County and its communities.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THESE DATA ARE BASED ON A SAMPLE OF THE POPULATION AND HOUSING UNITS THROUGHOUT THE STATE. THUS THE RESULTS ARE SUBJECT TO SAMPLING ERRORS AND MAY DIFFER FROM THE 100-PERCENT COUNTS FOR THESE AREAS.

These Summary File 3 profiles are based on town-level geography.  Villages wholly within one town are listed with that town; also listed is a separate table for the remainder of that town (the town outside of the village).

However, there are several villages and communities that are located in more than one town; these include:

  • Brasher Falls CDP (Census Designated Place) (located in the towns of Brasher and Stockholm)
  • Village of Massena  (located in the towns of Louisville, Massena and Norfolk)
  • Village of Norwood (located in the towns of Norfolk and Potsdam)
  • Star Lake CDP (Census Designated Place)  (located in the towns of Clifton and Fine)

The  profiles for these communities can be found at the beginning of the table below.  The parts of each of these communities located in separate towns are included with the profiles for those towns.
